Crate Training a Goldendoodle: A Gentle Guide

Building a lifetime of security and confidence for your new best friend.

Crate Training a Goldendoodle Puppy

Why Crate Training Matters

At The Doodle Nook, we believe the crate should be a “den,” not a cage. For a Goldendoodle puppy, this space provides a sense of security, aids in potty training, and prevents destructive chewing when you can’t supervise.

It’s about creating a safe haven where they can relax and feel completely at home.

Safety & Comfort

Always remove collars before crating to prevent snagging. Add a soft, washable bed and a “snuggle puppy” with a heartbeat to mimic their littermates for those first few nights.

The Right Size

The crate should be large enough for them to stand, turn, and lie down, but no larger. If it’s too big, they may use one corner as a bathroom. Use a divider panel as they grow.

Common Questions

What if they cry?

Ignore minor whining. If they are frantic, they may need a potty break. Take them out calmly, then return them to the crate immediately.

What should I NOT do?

Never use the crate as a punishment. It should always be associated with positive experiences, treats, and rest.
